Vlog : Can You Ever Become Debt Free In America?

Category : Debt Free

Am I missing something or should I be depressed about this reality? lol

You pay property taxes because the municipality in which you live uses the money to fund maintenance of roads, police and fire protection, schools etc. Also money on sales tax goes to fund these amenities. So, ,if you want to live in your own house this is a small price to pay for living in a modern society. People who rent also pay for these services because the owner of the property has calculated all his costs (incl property taxes) into your rental contract.

In the UK we had property tax for a short period of time but it proved very very unpopular and was later withdrawn. We do however pay council tax.

@cutlerylover I understand the point you’re trying to make. And to that end, bear in mind that other countries are far worse in their taxation. Go to Germany, the Netherlands or any country in Scandinavia to find out what high taxes are really like. Then visit Brazil, Russia, Romania or Syria and see what a truly corrupt government looks like. I’m not saying the U. S. is perfect. But many do not know how good they have it here. We are truly blessed to live in this country, problems and all.

@mz9393mz “You are wrong. Taxes don’t = debt. ”

what would you call owing someone money for something every year for the rest of your life with no chance to stop paying?

I am not stating my opinion on what I think of taxation. I’m simply pointing out that your logic is flawed:

You are wrong. Taxes don’t = debt.

Taxes are levied to keep the government running. Debt is money borrowed to purchase a good or service. Paying taxes on what you own doesn’t mean the government owns it. If you paid a mortgage or rent to the government, that would mean it owned the property.

Hey jeff upon this topic I think it is good to ask. I want you to fly the Gadsden Flag in your background.

@charlesburton95 I wouldn’t be stealing it if it was paid for, but otherwise good point, and you can bet I’d give em’ a hell of a fight!

@goodoleblue Unless you “Claimed” it in the name of a new country that you found, and are able to defend it from whoever you stole it from :P

You are the one with no facts, Rhodes scholar.

@mrmonkeyman50 Much in the same way that roads existed before the government got so deeply involved. I suggest you do some research. I don’t know how claiming that my property/income is mine makes me spoiled, nor do I depend on “ALL THE REST OF US”, I pay my taxes, even though I happen to believe taxation is theft. “Why not just buy your own island?” Sounds fun, maybe a good winter getaway and guess what I’d still be forced to pay taxes on it. ;-)

@goodoleblue Typical of Ron Paul fans: no thinking things through. Gated communities? LOL. . . dude, what happens when you leave the gate? Who pays for the roads then? Like a spoiled child, you call things the fruits of your labor when in fact you’ve depended on ALL THE REST OF US to provide ALL the infrastructure you take for granted. Like I said you are basically a Marxist from the right. Why not just buy your own island? :o )

@uncleben03 well it shouldnt be that you dotn really own the land but rather the fact that right now is the best time in like 60 years to buy. . . anyone cna get a house these days not many can easily sell theirs for what they have invested in it, certainly a buyers market too bad Im broke. . lol

Thanks asshole, I’ve been proud of myself for buying a nice big house at age 24 a couple years ago, now I just feel like a dick.

what about richard proenneke?

@mrmonkeyman50 Much in the same way that gated communities have their own police force or private roads. You may be true in saying that, “Either way you’ll have to pay for prisons. “, however one method involves force and coercion & the other, voluntary action. I would wager that private police forces/security operate much more efficiently than state sponsored institutions.

@goodoleblue LOL! “Prisons should be privately funded. . . ” by WHOM??? Either way you’ll have to pay for prisons. The one thing I’ve noticed most of all: those people who worship at the kool-aid of Ron Paul typically have not done well at school and aren’t particularly well off. Yet, their heads are filled with all kinds of “theories”. You remind me of the Marxists of the 1960s. . . full of pronouncements on society that don’t fit with human nature. Don’t be angry, join us!

@cutlerylover “Our country works on a whole for society,,” is that what you call 15. 2 trillion in debt? “Our system works to make everyone equal. . “ yes, equally poor, equally less informed and uneducated maybe. The only thing government should enforce equally is the defense of individual’s property rights.

@goodoleblue No, my facts are not incorrect. Land taxes are kept local, however I mentioned “property taxes”. The income tax is a property tax, and levied at the local, state (in many locales) level as well as the federal level, of course.

@mrmonkeyman50 No, I wouldn’t be happy to “spend many times more money for prisons. ” The criminal justice system is so deeply flawed in these United States mostly due to discrimination and the detention of non-violent offenders, among other things. I believe prisons, and other essential services could & would be privately funded and maintained, but of course too many have bought into the notion that it is out civil duty to allow those elected to lawfully plunder under the social contract BS.

@goodoleblue No doubt you wouldn’t want to put money into school systems but you’d be more than happy to spend many times more money for prisons. If you really don’t want to be part of society then move to the jungles of South America of the vast deserts of the mid-East. You are the state – you make up part of it, your voice is part of the community. C’mon in and join society. Oh, yes, your “facts” are wrong – your property taxes are kept local, dude, they don’t go to welfare.

or for a corrupt welfare system that keeps people poor and dependent on the sweat of others, making them criminals whereby they become recipients of stolen property. Those are the two biggest expenditures of most state’s/county’s property taxes, you know. Getting rid of that would not be “going back to hunter-gatherer”, but a step in the right direction, IMHO. Don’t much care about Rothbard’s taste or lack thereof related to music or any other subjective topics, but thanks for the trivia.
