Does OSAP (Ontario Student Assistance Program) Help people whom have debt but not with them?

Category : Debt Assistance

Im wondering because i am trying to get into college, and i need student assistance. Thanks to stupid young adult crap, and helping people, i ended up getting around 9,600.00 in debt. Any knowledge, a friend of mine said that they only take people with under 3000.00 of debt. I am also on disability as i have a Permanent disability, was also a ward of the state though i have no children, no assets, have been out of school longer then 4 years.

Some insite please thanks

when you apply for OSAP one of the first things they do is a credit check. They are looking in the last 3 years for 3 or more accounts with a combined value of more than $1000 that are more than 90 days in arrears.

If you fail the credit check and you still want to go to school, you must do a credit appeal. There is a form that is available at your financial aid office. You must also write a letter explaining the circumstances surrounding the debt, you career goals and your plan for repaying your loan.

Your financial aid office can give you more info or you can check www. canlearn. ca
