Debt Free by 30: Practical Advice for Young, Broke, & Upwardly Mobile

Is this book for real? I didn’t find one bit of useful information that I didn’t already know. This book is disorganized, unresearched, and a complete waste of time. I’m really getting tired of hearing “you can save money by not buying those expensive Starbucks drinks. ” Give me a break. I don’t buy Starbucks, I already know it’s a waste of money.
This book has several unnecessary financial “quizzes” which tell you nothing, and meaningless pyramid charts. Even the “humorous” references are ridiculous. . . in one part it says you should celebrate your debt reduction program by “experimenting with bisexuality. ”

This book is so much common sense. I just don’t understand why people have a problem with budgeting. It’s simple, don’t spend more then you make! But if you do have a problem with this concept or need help getting out of debt, this book could help. Money saving tip – get it from the library!

The book is well written and easy to read. The jokes were also welcome, especially when debt is involved. However, the advice was too basic and I learned nothing new. If you’re a complete novice to the idea of budgeting and saving money, then this book would be helpful. I know the basic ideas, so I found it pretty useless. In addition, since the book was published in 2001, most websites recommended don’t exist anymore or don’t provide the same services. (and there are much better alternative sites available now). Given that a big portion of the book is dedicated to sites that can save money, this is a major drawback.

If every 20-30 something knew the contents of this book, we’d all be in better financial shape. I had no idea that getting out of debt could be so completely demystified and so manageable.

This book encourages a spending diet with minimal pain. I laughed throughout. I guarantee if I had picked up a debt-reduction book that had an inkling of preachy-ness to it, I would have burned it immediately (then gone shopping). Oh, it also has great recipes in it (that are cheap and easy to make).
